The new maximum irradiance level of 0.3 W/m2 is now applicable to all UV equipment in the UK tanning industry. The importance to supply or operate UV tanning equipment that complies with recognized safety measures has become more important than ever.
Of course, there have always been different opinions about the European wide new output standard of 0.3/Wm2 and the new regulation’s effects. The facts are very clear and the team at LightTech in Hungary very much supports and advocates the strict compliance to the regulation – now also in the UK market. Adam Sauska, Tanning Sales Representative at LightTech and Vice Chairman of the Tanning Sunbed Association (TSA) says: “To obey to the new irradiance levels is crucial to have constant and long-term success in the UK tanning market.” Adam has a reason and a clear vision to think so: “If an industry is regulated, it should not be regarded as something negative, or as a barrier, that would hinder the growth potential of a market environment. Not at all! Regulating certain equipment, technologies or procedures, actually means that it is accepted by official authorities. In return, this creates acceptance of the regulated equipment in the end-user market. In our case, acceptance of UV tanning equipment creates a safe and secure feeling in consumers’ minds.”
At LightTech in Europe and Light Sources in North America we strongly work with our sunbed manufacturing partners to ensure the use of equipment that complies with all statutory or local authority laws, requirements and obligations. “We are aware that meeting these regulatory standards is not as simple as changing lamps,” explains Krisztian Imre, Tanning Lamp Quality and R&D Manager at LightTech. “We know that salons purchasing new equipment also have to invest much more time in the unit’s evaluation. But together with our sunbed OEM partners, we are always available to assist and support the market. Besides giving tips, we can also explain in further detail the regulations itself.”
