Light Sources Group History Timeline |
Light Sources, Inc., founded by Christian L. Sauska President & CEO and his former partners, has been creating long-lasting partnerships and innovative lighting solutions for over 27 years.
Christian began his journey in the lamp manufacturing industry in 1970 when he obtained a job on the assembly line at Voltarc Technologies, Inc. A native of Hungary, Christian used this time to sharpen his English skills. His ambition and love for the industry brought him to night school, where he earned his BS Degree in Engineering and MBA. With his dedication, he moved from the assembly line to Vice President of the company within eight years.
Having always had an entrepreneurial spirit, Christian knew it was time to found his own company. He and his friends had a shared ambition to create a privately-held business that emphasized people and technological advancements. In 1983, with limited resources, they eagerly began Light Sources, Inc. in a two-car garage in West Haven, Connecticut, and later moved to Ansonia before finally opening operations in nearby Orange.
Light Sources has grown to have a long history in engineering, holding global leading positions in the design and manufacturing of various specialty gas discharge lamp technologies.
In 1989, with the advent of backlit fluorescent AMLCD displays, Light Sources expanded its business in Connecticut by creating a separate manfufacturing company, LCD Lighting, Inc. The company produces specialty fluorescent lamps for Avionic, Maritime, and IT Backlighting solutions. LCD Lighting, hi-bright backlighting lamps and assemblies are used in military and commercial aircrafts throughout the world.
In the early 1990s, Light Sources expanded globally when it became affiliated with Cerlux in Oroshaza, Hungary. Cerlux manufactures custom, high-precision ceramic lamp bases and matching sockets for the affiliated companies to provide proprietary solutions for its OEM clients. In 1993, Light Sources formed a strategic partnership with LightTech Lamp Technology, LTD. in Dunakeszi, Hungary, to meet the global demand for specialty and tanning fluorescent lamps and to better serve the European market. While LightTech is the European counterpart to Light Sources, other products they manufacture include specialty UV lamps, softglass UVC germicidal lamps for disinfection, amalgam lamps, medical lamps, and collagen fluorescent lamps for the anti-aging market.
In 2004, Light Sources acquired Voltarc’s Ultraviolet germicidal product line from Perkin Elmer. This was the last product line held by Perkin Elmer after their sale of Voltarc Technologies in 2002.
In 2007, the group of companies entered the sign market when they acquired the assets of Masonlite UK Ltd., a manufacturer of neon and cold cathode lighting components. Masonlite had been owned by Voltarc Technologies. Production was relocated to the European manufacturing center and the home office was relocated to Orange, Connecticut. The product line was expanded with the introduction of fluorescent U-lamps and long lamps for the outdoor sign market.
Light Sources opened a second sales office in China in 2008, creating a synergistic, inter-continental relationship to better serve clients in Asia. The additional location on a new continent has been critical in meeting the increasing worldwide demand for UVC germicidal lamps.
Finally, in 2009, Christian and his team had the unique opportunity to fulfill a longtime aspiration of owning Voltarc. At this time, they acquired Voltarc Technologies assets, including all of the manufacturer’s respected brands, such as Kulka Lampholders and Wiring Devices. The acquisition allowed greater expansion within the signage industry and extended the corporation’s multi-product lamp portfolio with neon and fluorescent sign lighting components, specialty fluorescent lamps, high intensity discharge ultraviolet curing lamps, and related electrical lamp holders and wiring devices of Kulka. Voltarc has long been the largest producer of neon tubing and specialty sign lamps in the North American market.
Christian and his partners’ original vision of a tightly-knit, family owned business that puts innovative approaches in manufacturing, technology, development and product research to practical use has been realized through the combined strength and great team spirit of the people at Light Sources and its affiliated family of companies: LightTech, LCD Lighting, Cerlux, and Voltarc. With future growth and global expansion, the Light Sources group will continue its commitment to exceptional levels of customer service and the development of technological advancements with uniquely engineered lighting solutions.
