Our Commitment to Social Programs
We believe that what we do as individuals is made stronger when done as a team. That is why we encourage every employee to participate in our companies’ efforts to raise money and awareness for local and national charities, as well as offer aid to other employees and their families in times of need.

ORGANIZATIONS WE SUPPORT IN NORTH AMERICA:

St. Jude Children's Research HospitalSt. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. Children from all 50 states and from around the world have come through the doors of St. Jude for treatment. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance. No child is denied treatment because of a family’s inability to pay.

We feel blessed to be able to support an organization that does so much to help children and their families. We encourage our partners to contribute to the efforts of St. Jude. We hope, one day, their research will help eliminate pediatric cancer.

American CancRelay for Life logoer Society – Relay for LifeLightSources Relay for Life team
For many years, our team in the US participated in The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Relay
for Life is a three-day event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones, and fight back against the disease.

The women at LightSources in Orange, CT created a team to participate in Making StridSue Rocchioes Against Breast Cancer. This event is the American Cancer Society’s premier 24-hour relay to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer.

For many years, Susan Rocchio, our HR Director who works for our companies since day one, organized the LightSources’ women’s team for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Sue says, “The relays have always been a special experience for our teams. Many of us have come in touch with cancer ourselves. Rain or shine, different groups from around the community participated in this wonderful event to support a common cause.”

OUR PRACTICES
Our Commitment to Green Business Practices

Active participation outside the company in social programs is matched by our sustainable business practices and commitment to creating greener technologies.

Sustainability 1

The LightSources group and its partners are dedicated to continuous improvement of its processes to help protect the environment. Some of these practices include using measured mercury pellets for controlled mercury dosage as well as lead-free phosphors.

We continuously train our employees about environmental issues and proper practice in our industry.

In Europe, we are committed to meeting the environmental control requirements of EN ISO 14001:1996 and we are compliant with RoHS and the WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive.

Energy Efficient Products
Whether it’s our companies LongLifeTM UV germicidal lamps, tanning lamps or TriLight Max lighting lamps – a long lamp life means fewer replacements. Fewer replacements means that our products perform at the highest energy efficiency output, leading to reduced maintenance and replacement costs. Fewer replacements equal fewer lamp recycling processes. And less lamp recycling helps maintain our valuable natural resources. It’s that simple!

Recycling at LightTech in Hungary
To help prevent and reduce waste of electrical equipment during the production process and to meet the WEEE Directive, our LightTech facility has its own recycling equipment. Any material that we cannot recycle in house is sent to Electro Coord for recycling.

As defined by the WEEE Directive, recycled materials include:

  • Lamps (except incandescent and halogen light bulbs)
  • Luminaries (except household)
  • Equipment for controlling and/or spreading light
